A day in the life of Jen

Wednesday July 11th, 2012

My alarm went off at 5:30am, which is actually closer to 5:25am because I've accidentally changed the clock time instead of the alarm time and was too lazy to set the clock time back a few minutes. I used to get up at 5:15am (which is really 5:10am) but they switched my schedule at work. I used to work 9 hour days so I could get every other Friday off but I'm back on 8 hour days without any Fridays off.

I always weigh myself before I get in the shower.  It's the most consistent I'm going to get because my stomach is empty, I haven't eaten anything, and clothes can also change the weight depending on how heavy they are. I took a shower, blow dried my hair, fed Tigger, kissed Dave goodbye (he was still in bed sleeping) and was out the door by 5:50am (real time, not alarm clock time).

My drive in usually takes about 35 minutes. I leave this early in the morning so I can avoid traffic. One of my least favorites part of every day is the drive. I don't really care for driving too much.

I got to work around 6:25 by the time I parked and walked up to my desk. I aim for 6:30am so that was good timing. :) Right now I'm working on testing for our AP1000 plant being built in China. I have been learning and revising a series of test datasheets based on requirement/design changes. I'm actually done with the revisions and waiting for someone to review them and give me comments so I'm in a bit of a lull. I use that time to catch up on other stuff. I'm still learning how AP1000 does testing- I've only been working on this for a few months now. I also can catch up on training if there's a lull in other work, and I cleaned up my datasheets to make them look "prettier." (Next week I will be on the floor doing dry run testing and the following week I should be on the test floor performing the formal testing and recording the results.  During dry run testing I'll work some kinks out.)

For lunch, I met a coworker at DiBella's, a sub place.

I had training in the afternoon in a different building- headquarters. It's about 10 minutes or so from the building I usually work in. The training was scheduled from 1-4:30.

My training ran a little late and I left the building at 4:45. It took an hour to get home (slow traffic and stuff) so I was home at 5:45. We have practice most Wednesdays so Dave and I try to clean up downstairs where we practice and eat a quick dinner. Today we didn't have enough time to really cook anything so we had hot pockets. Dinner of champions! ;) While we waited for everyone to show up, Dave finished a True Blood he had on DVR and I finished a book I had been reading. Blech I do not like True Blood because of the violence. I don't generally like anything with vampires if it's even remotely bloody.

We had practice (our worship band) from 7-9, and came up with a list of songs for our next service, which is about a month away. We ran through the songs; some were new so we had a lot of me writing and erasing what we were going to do in the song. I still need music; I've never been good at improvising or anything like that. But when the music doesn't fit the way we're going to play, it can get confusing!

Since I get up early I always try to get to bed by 10pm. After practice we ended up watching an X Files episode in bed before falling asleep. Well, when we do that I tend to fall asleep sometime during the episode and never see the ending.

I just picked a random day to write about but this is pretty typical and why sometimes I just don't blog. If I wrote about what I did on a daily/weekly basis it would get monotonous. Dave and I kind of have a routine and it just seems like we're somehow always busy!

  1. You did write this!
You get more in. I didn't realize you'd have time to read before practice or that you'd watch TV after practice. Your training went late so you actually worked extra. When I had training that would go late I'd get to work later because for me traffic wasn't that major. And then I would do something productive around the house or workout in the morning.

  2. I think if I went in to work later I'd probably just sleep in longer. If I do shift my hours at all, and I have more time in the morning, I do tend to use it for sleeping.

We don't have a lot of "extra" time but that's when we fit in watching tv shows on DVR, etc. Or reading. But this hopefully helps explain why we're so busy and when we try to hang out with friends we have to schedule it in. I feel bad about having to do that!
