2 years

I can't believe it's already been 2 years since Neil was born. It doesn't feel like it's been that long but at the same time I look at him and can't believe we have a little boy now, who is talking, singing, running, jumping, dancing, and definitely has a mind of his own.
We have found that Neil REALLY likes puzzles and has a knack for them. He loves to put them together and so far finds things like faces to match up. He has a 24 piece Thomas puzzle and the first thing he puts together every single time is Percy's face along with some of the green color of the train. I'm working with him to group like colors together. He does try to jam pieces in the wrong way and then looks at it like it's okay and I tell him he's being silly and that it doesn't match. This is where I wish I was better at teaching. I want to do a mix of letting him figure it out without me telling him directly and not letting him go so long he gets frustrated.

He also definitely knows colors, which is something I've been wondering about (if he's way behind on that). I am starting to think it's his attitude or something, that's why he says the wrong color. If that's the case we're really in for it.

He still skips numbers- in English it's 5 and in Spanish it's tres. It's cute. He doesn't always skip them but most of the time he still does.
First night in his converted toddler bed
We couldn't get Neil to sleep in the actual toddler bed in our converted guest room. So we decided to give in and convert the crib. That does mean we have 2 toddler beds in our house. But it worked like a charm. The first night we converted it, he slept fine in it. I think that changing rooms was part of the problem. So our plan is to move and pick out his room and then transfer him to the actual toddler bed and put the crib back together as a crib. There are so many big changes at once for him right now that I'm a bit nervous about how all this will go.

At first Neil was staying in his bed for both naps and getting up in the morning. We were pleasantly surprised. I take full blame for ruining this. I credited this to daycare, because since he turned 1 he's been sleeping on a mat and they tell them to stay there until a certain time even if they wake up. Well, I was telling daycare when I picked Neil up one day and saying yeah he could get out of bed now but he doesn't, thanks blah blah. My mistake? Saying that with Neil standing right next to me. He listens to EVERYTHING now even if he seems like he's playing and not paying attention. I forget how much he understands, too. So now we're working on telling him that he needs to stay in bed until we come get him. Imagine my surprise and delight to be woken up in bed the first Saturday after I had this talk with daycare. I have to say, it is cute, and reminds me how much he's growing. But gone are our peaceful days in the morning and I think he has been laying in bed awake so we'll be getting up earlier now.
Neil is definitely playing more organized now. He seems to have a group of friends at daycare. One of the other boys, his mom told me she hears Neil's name along with the other boy at home. I nodded and said yep they must play a lot together or something. He also actually plays with trucks and runs them around and puts things together/builds a lot better. He loves to knock things down as well but it's fun to watch him learn and grow and actually play with things as they were intended. He also lines up his stuffed animals, sometimes to play basketball together. Oh and his favorite toy seems to be Rock N Roll Elmo. He knows the words and even laughs along, and everything can be a microphone for him.
We are now using a booster exclusively. I miss the high chair sometimes; it contained him better. Especially when we're eating out, he doesn't want to sit still and is touching everything on the table, trying to talk to the people sitting next to us, etc. But he really doesn't seem to want to be in the high chair. In fact, Mickey has been in his high chair for the week or so leading up to his 2nd birthday.
Stats:
Clothing: I started putting him in 2T pajamas but they are too big so we just let him wear a mix of 18 month and 2T pajamas. We're doing the same with shirts. Pants have to be 18 months and even some of those are too loose and fall down on him.
Diapers: Size 4
Shoes: Size 7, when I last measured his foot was 6.5 but the shoes I found were 7's and they work well AND light up so that's what he wears
Weight: 28 pounds (50.76th percentile)
Height: 35.5" (85.69th percentile). Apparently I really can't measure his height because I got 33.5 inches. I give up. I need some help.

Happy 2nd birthday!

We got pictures taken for Neil's 2nd birthday a couple of weeks ago at Target. He was hard to get to sit still and smile and we resorted to movies (songs) on my phone. I'm glad we got some good pictures.

32 weeks

It's crazy how I've been preoccupied with other stuff this pregnancy. I have to say though that I still feel more emotional although I *think* I'm holding it together better this time. But with moving, saying goodbye to friends, realizing I'm not going to have a chance to say goodbye to other friends, etc... Last night I stubbed my toe and cried. Granted, it hurt pretty bad and I thought I got my toenail, but it wasn't worth crying over! Geez. But there is a LOT going on all at once and sometimes it does get to me.
How many weeks: 32

Size of baby: A squash and measures 30 cm or 11.8 inches, crown to rump length. Head to toe is 16.7 inches. The baby also weighs 1900-2000 grams or 4.2-4.4 pounds.

Total Weight Gain/Loss: I gained 2 pounds so I'm up 10.5 pounds total.

Maternity Clothes: Yep they fit pretty well right now, for the most part. Some of my pants are too big at the top.

Gender: Boy.

Movement: Neil used to keep me company during my drive to work (and home too). This baby keeps me company in the evening and all night. All night. LOL.

Sleep: I finally feel better! My nose is still a bit stuffy but it doesn't keep me from sleeping anymore. And amazingly (knock on wood) the baby moving isn't really waking me up that I'm realizing anyways. I'm sleeping pretty well at this point. Crashing as soon as my head hits the pillow. I am waking up before my alarm goes off although if I didn't have to get up for work I'd be rolling over and going back to sleep.

What I miss: Running! I kinda want to do it again but I have a feeling with all my stomach growth since I last run I might feel a lot of round ligament pain. Plus the weather has been bad and since we run in a parking lot at work it's not really safe at the moment. But we'll see.

Cravings: Nothing,

Aversions: Nothing.

Symptoms: My gums have been bleeding again lately. I am also at the point now that people who didn't know I was pregnant are commenting on the pregnancy. This is the sweet spot. I'm not swollen (yet) or HUGE (yet), but I do definitely look pregnant at this point. With the start of real weight gain though I'm guessing that this won't last very long.

Best moment this week: We've been trying to see friends to say goodbye and I'm thankful for the ones I'm getting to see and say goodbye to. I'm not singling anybody out though as the best haha.

Looking forward to: Well they will be packing us up this week and loading the truck the day I turn 33 weeks. So these posts may disappear and I may not have pictures the next couple of weeks. We'll see. I'm both looking forward to and dreading moving. I will miss so much here. I know I sound repetitive.

Same this time: Last time I talked about sitting in meetings and seeing Neil (my stomach) move. I can see it move through my clothes now and was thinking this was earlier but I guess not.

Different from last time: Wow is my weight change so different. Last time I was up 22.5 pounds at this point. Wow. I think I calculated wrong though; I have a chart I made to compare pregnancies (that will not be shared, it has actual weights) and that says I was up 18.5 pounds. Still, that's an 8 pound difference. (I think I really screwed up my weight change just because I wasn't sure what to count as my pre-pregnancy weight. The chart I have, I used to actually record my weight weekly anyways, so I used that for my comparison from this pregnancy to last.)

Also, last time I was saying I couldn't eat as much and was feeling nauseous at times. I don't have that issue this pregnancy.

Weekly pictures 1/18 to 1/24

With packing and everything, pictures aren't getting taken as much. Plus the next few weeks will probably be more posts scheduled ahead of time until we get settled in a new place with internet, etc. It's hard to believe that 2 weeks from when this posts we will have moved to a new state altogether.

We went to the Penguins game on Sunday, separate post here (although oops I saved a LOT of pictures for the weekly post):

Drinking from a big boy cup we got in the citrus lane box; separate post later.

We have been going through and getting rid of stuff.
I decided to finally purge my huge book collection. We had them in a storage place,
and I went there to really go through everything.
This is just some of the books, the overflow into the hallway.
Sad, I know. I'm starting to feel like a hoarder.
Thanks to Giant Eagle savings, I got gas for $0.479 a gallon! Awesome.
This time I got smart and put newspaper down under where Neil was.
He still made a mess of himself though.

Weekly Pictures 1/11 to 1/17

He was so tired he fell asleep while eating lunch.

It's art week at our household. These are two different days. Above is brush painting. Below is finger painting a separate day.

We went to the Science Center and met my friend with 2 of her 3 kids there. They had a robots exhibit, then we went to see the big train display, and the kids had the most fun in the little play area. I didn't get a ton of pictures but here are some (mostly from the little play area).
This picture is blurry but I'm posting anyways- it's the best one I could get.
He was "flying" on our dining room table.

31 weeks

I have a very heavy heart. I mentioned in last week's post that a friend suffered a late term loss and I had a 2nd friend also suffer a late term loss a few days later. Two in one week. Not only is my heart heavy but honestly it has made me nervous and really worry just a bit more. There's always worry. Always. But it's hard to hear their stories. My heart goes out to them and I am just devastated for both of them. And I've laid in bed thinking about their losses, my previous losses, and just how fragile in general life is. I'm hugging Neil a lot closer, too.
How many weeks: 31

Size of baby: A pineapple and measures 29 cm or 11.4 inches, crown to rump length. Head to toe is 16 inches. The baby also weighs 1700-1800 grams or 3.75-4 pounds.

Total Weight Gain/Loss: I gained 3 pounds so I'm up 8.5 pounds. This is actually the same weight I was at, at 26 weeks. So net gain from 26-31 weeks was 0.

Maternity Clothes: Most definitely. They are still a bit loose on me right now but I am not complaining about that one!

Gender: Boy.

Movement: I feel it a lot and it's stronger than I remember it with Neil, still. This baby definitely reminds me every so often that he's here, for sure. If I'm busy I don't always notice but most of the time sitting down or laying down I'm feeling movement. And it's fun to watch my stomach roll. He also pushes against whatever side I'm laying on so he must feel the mattress or something.

Sleep:I can't kick this cold and it's bad. I can't breathe at night so my sleep has been pretty bad. I did ask at my appointment early this week and they said Benadryl is fine to take every night for a few weeks until the darn cold goes away. BUT it seems like every other night I sleep well and that's just because I'm so tired. Nothing I can take is helping. The midwife also suggested a neti pot, which I tried and is DISGUSTING. And it didn't do a whole lot for very long. It did clean out my nose but very temporarily. I can't wait until I'm feeling better and can sleep.

What I miss: Being able to take decent medicine when I'm feeling sick. (Same as last week AND the week before.)

Cravings: Nothing,

Aversions: Nothing.

Symptoms: Growing belly, I'm starting to feel like I waddle at times. Although I'm also finding the more I walk around the more comfortable I feel.

Best moment this week: We went to our last Penguins game and I felt emotional about it. I'm going to miss Pittsburgh a whole lot. (We had more tickets but sold them because we won't be living here for those games.)

Looking forward to: Seeing our friends and saying goodbye since we'll be moving. Although I'm not looking forward to the goodbye part of it. But I am hoping we'll be seeing some friends. Oh and it's a week ahead but Neil's birthday is coming up! I don't think we're really going to do much but he's only 2 anyways.

Same this time: Last time this week I posted about pregnancy/labor dreams. I didn't have them then and I don't have them now. I have not had any labor dreams so far in this pregnancy. And I also mentioned not feeling Braxton Hicks contractions. I'm not really feeling them this time, either. Maybe I just don't recognize them or something.

Different from last time: I just have so much less energy. Now I can add to the list this cold. Sometimes at our house just walking up the stairs, which aren't very big, I pause, and Dave asks if I'm okay. I just sigh and say yes I'm just really really tired. Oh and last time I mentioned that my belly button popped this week. That happened a lot earlier this pregnancy. I should have written down when but it popped weeks ago. One other thing- last time I was saying I had trouble moving around or was starting to. Maybe it's the lack of weight gain but it's not really that bad for me right now. I don't feel like I've lost my ab muscles and I am still moving around for the most part pretty easily and well.

Penguins game

We went to our final Penguins game (for the foreseen future anyways) and were able to take Neil because it was a day game. I was feeling very sentimental and am having a hard time with the fact that we are leaving this area. It's for a good reason and maybe pregnancy hormones play in as well but I am definitely feeling a lot of emotions.

Anyway, so this was our last Penguins game. We took Neil. Start time was at 12:30pm, which is also when he usually starts his nap. He napped in the car on the way. Then pre-game we let him run around in the kids area. We got him food hoping that would keep him occupied in the seats for the 1st period (knowing being tired would make him more cranky and touchy). He had a hot dog and popcorn for the first time. That did work to some extent, plus he seemed really tired and was leaning on me a lot of the 1st period. We spend the break and 2nd period in the kids area again, and went back to our seats for the 3rd period.  The people next to us had left so Neil was able to sit in his own seat and he repeated some of what was shouted including "Get the puck" and "Shoot it". He was definitely tired though and after some fussiness fell asleep in the car after we left.
