I'm learning bass! Kind of. I played violin for 12 years growing up, so I'm used to the feel of it, but bass isn't exactly the same as violin.

First, the strings are backwards. On the violin, from left to right they are G-D-A-E. On the bass (and lowest strings on the guitar) it's E-A-D-G from left to right.

Second, wow, the strings are pretty heavy. When I played violin, I had callouses from pushing down on the string. But these strings are much worse and I no longer have callouses. So I got indentations on my fingers just from playing one song.

So I'm pretty excited about trying something new. Hopefully I can learn it well enough to actually play when we're out at church services or festivals.
