I didn't post much this week, partly because I was busy and partly because I still felt sick. I can't kick this stupid cold. At least my throat isn't hurting, though, and it's definitely not as bad as it was. But I'm still waking up feeling pretty groggy in the mornings and having a hard time getting out of bed and moving. I'm going to try to go to sleep early tonight. Unlike a lot of people, I do have to work tomorrow. It's not one of our holidays.
I don't have any pictures from this past week. Maybe I should make that another resolution, to try to take more pictures. I'd like to include something like that in blog posts; I think it makes them more interesting.
Some of the things we have done this past week:
I ran a few times (and will talk more about that in my weekly half marathon training update, in a separate post). We finally hung out with some friends of ours who had a baby in August- we hadn't seen them really since before their baby was born. I got to hold her and even feed her a bottle, she is so adorable!
We also went to my sister-in-law's house. She and I cook together sometimes. She's a really good cook and baker- she makes some delicious cake (and baked our groom's cake for our wedding - here's a picture of that) and I especially love her homemade frosting. Anyway, we made stuffed meatloaf, mashed potatoes, corn, and pineapple upside down cake for dessert. There is some leftover cake on the counter that's calling my name right now.
The groom's cake that my sister-in-law made is on the right. It was delicious. Although techncially it wasn't a groom's cake (as Dave pointed out later) because it was along the theme of a wedding. Traditionally the groom's cake is something the groom would want that's special. I'm not sure what Dave would have picked if he'd had the choice...
I went running with a friend I'm getting to know better. She is doing Couch to 5K so we followed her week on the jail trail and then went to Panera and got to talking. Before I knew it, a few hours had passed in Panera. I love being able to talk to some people like that, though! And I haven't had a good talk like that in a long time.
And today we went to Cranberry for church because Dave played drums there (he plays about once a month), and went to the Pittsburgh Symphony. We went primarily for Evelyn Glennie- the only person to make a solo percussion career. She's a bit strange and the music she played was very contemporary. The piece she played was Spirit Voices by Steven Stucky. It was a very unique piece. ;) She is so amazing though and wow can she play mallets really well. If I ever hear that she's playing a keyboard percussion concert or something, I'm there! The PSO also played Suite from Mother Goose by Ravel (also pretty good) and the 2nd half was Symphonic Dances by Rachmaninoff. I'm more familiar with his piano concertos but I really thought that the Symphonic Dances was very good. There were some points where all the strings were playing that were just so touching. I also love it when all of the brass is playing, and there were some parts of the piece with that as well.
Hopefully this week I'll finally get over my cold. We have another busy one planned, as usual. Tuesday will be two weeks from when I started feeling sick (started in my throat) and colds are supposed to last two weeks, so I'm crossing my fingers!

Stuffed meatloaf? Sounds delicious. Glad to hear that things have been going well for you! :)
ReplyDeleteHey Lisa! If you're interested in the recipe I can send it to you. It was stuffed with stuffing. Pretty easy recipe (and something I could probably actually do by myself).
ReplyDeleteI would have went with a Terrible Towel cake, or maybe something Star Wars or Rush. ;o)
