4.51 mile run (2/28/12)

Yesterday for the first time I met a running group, People Who Run Downtown.  One of my coworkers founded it and has been telling me about it for 6 months.  I will definitely be going back again.  It was nice to meet some more runners.

We met at Bettis Grille and I barely made it, but I did make it in time!  I wanted to try for a 10:30 pace but the people who run that had already left.  There were some people there who usually run around a 9:30 pace but they let me tag along and said they'd been planning on running a little more slowly than that, anyways.

We ran from the Bettis Grille around the Casino, over the West End Bridge, and kind of through part of the Southside to the Smithfield Street Bridge.  The rest of the group kept following the path that was laid out- it was a 6 mile run.  I wasn't sure I wanted to go that far, so I split off that point and tried to figure out the best way to get back to Bettis Grille.  I didn't go the most direct way, but I did get 4.5 miles in, which was my goal.

The first 3.5 miles were with the group and they were going faster than I thought I could be comfortable with.  However, I didn't even notice the miles and was talking pretty much the entire time.  So maybe I need to start running faster in general...  I'm still trying to figure all of this out.

Here's the map of my run:

And the mile splits:

Distance Split Sum
1 09:49 09:49
2 09:44 19:33
3 09:50 29:23
4 10:43 40:06
4.51 05:23 45:29
Avg pace 10:05.0
