17 weeks

Thyroid update. I asked the Midwife Center for a 2nd opinion. Mostly because I don't understand why they are going against what a specialist (endocrinologist) said. Rather than belabor this, they sat down altogether and did a chart review. Then one of them called and said that during pregnancy the acceptable level can vary from doctor to doctor. Their limit IS 2.5 during the 1st trimester and since I was high, even though I saw a specialist, they want me to get another blood draw to check the levels again. If that blood draw comes back within limits, we're done. If it doesn't, I'm going to tackle that when we get there. So I'm waiting for them to call me and schedule the blood draw. They asked if it would help to do it at the Midwife Center (YES it would, not as much waiting and anticipation and it would be in a birth room instead of one of those stuffy places where they draw blood) and she also offered something along the lines of Ativan/Valium. For this test I declined it. Honestly I get so agitated that medication doesn't take effect until after the bloodwork or needle part is done. Although I will probably ask for it for the 1 hour glucose test because they think I could have failed it due to elevated cortisone levels, which would affect the sugar level they are measuring. (She assured me that being stressed will not change my thyroid levels.)

How many weeks: 17 (10/14/14)

Size of baby:
An onion and measures 13.5 cm or 5.3 inches. The baby also weights 150-200 grams or 5.3-7.0 ounces.

Total Weight Gain/Loss: Down 3.5 pounds overall. I gained 1 pound in the past week. I am about my pre-pregnancy weight before Neil.

Maternity Clothes: I actually feel like I'm getting bigger. My butt is definitely bigger haha. I asked Dave in all honesty to tell me if you could tell at all and he said no. But pants are feeling a bit tighter. This happens gradually so it can be hard to tell. And there will be a period where I will just look like I'm gaining weight. I got a comment yesterday that I have been looking really skinny haha.

Gender: Boy

Movement: Yes!! I'm pretty sure I'm feeling movement now. Not often and not much but it's there. And aw. This reminds me how much I did like this. This is the best part of being pregnant. Remind me of this when I'm whining later about getting punched in the gut, the bladder, etc.

Sleep: Lately I fall asleep really easily at night but then I wake up about 1-2 hours before my alarm goes off and then kind of fitfully sleep for awhile, falling deep asleep again at some point and jolting when my alarm goes off. Fun. ;)

What I miss: I've been so busy and otherwise preoccupied I'm tempted to delete this from my updates haha. I still forget half the time that I'm even pregnant. Honestly.

Cravings: I'm just getting really hungry, especially in the middle of the night (maybe why I wake up 1-2 hours before my alarm goes off) and in the morning. But not for anything in particular.

Aversions: Nothing really.

Symptoms:
Lately I've been feeling extremely light headed. It's only when I stand up but pretty much every single time. I have to take it slowly and pause. I don't think anybody has noticed and I haven't even told Dave.

Best moment this week: We went to a farm to get some pumpkins and I really really enjoyed it. I love seeing Neil get older, more understanding, and enjoying new experiences.

Looking forward to: I want to get Neil's new room (guest room) picked up and ready for him. I'm not sure when we're going to do this but I'm looking forward to it. I'm also looking forward to a trip to visit my sister in Savannah. (Same as last two weeks. We are not progressing on the guest room at all.)

Same this time: My weight this time is still tracking similar- I'm starting to re-gain again now.

Different from last time: Last time around this time my clothes were getting tight. My clothes are still tight but not a whole lot tighter than they were. I laughed when I read that my work pants were loose pre-pregnancy. I barely fit into them before getting pregnant this time and I'm just happy I do still fit in them. It seems like from my write-up before and the picture I posted that I actually was getting a little bigger a little earlier. I was also in better shape last time, though, and did weigh less, so I assume that could be making a difference. I'm surprised though because supposedly with subsequent pregnancies you show earlier. (I keep saying my butt growing is making my stomach seem to not be although my stomach really isn't bigger yet.)

  1. Yay for feeling movement! That was always my favorite part also.

    1. Yeah that was the one thing I missed after Neil was born. Even if later on it can hurt and cause you to have to pee RIGHT AWAY. LOL.

    2. I don't remember kicks ever hurting or making me feel like I had to pee right away. Maybe Ella was calm or maybe it was because of her position?

    3. Neil kicked my bladder all the time. And there were times he kicked me in this one spot on my side that it did really hurt. I don't know what he was getting but I couldn't help but grimace. It was hard to hide at work. I would jump in meetings and stuff. I thought that was normal. Maybe this time it will be better!

  2. I am surprised you aren't showing earlier. From what I hear that's what happens. But I'd be glad to show later.

    1. Well I still can feel it more than you can see and it's hard to tell the difference between looking like you gained weight and actually showing. And yeah I thought it would be earlier this time but it's definitely not! And I was in better shape last time before getting pregnant. Maybe I just have more fat to hide it this time. :)

    2. Well I do know not feeling Ella push my ribs wasn't normal and that was due to her position so maybe other ones are the same way.
