I keep saying I want to get back in shape after having Neil and I'm finally buckling down to do it. I'm seriously considering running the Hershey Half Marathon. Last year I ran the relay without enough training and it felt great. I would love to get another half marathon under my belt and hopefully run it un-injured so I feel like I got a "real" time and did my best.
Training has kinda proven to me that I maintained some level of fitness after having Neil that completely bombed over the winter. Since I've been nursing I've been careful about fitness in general because I was afraid it would make my supply drop and I really wanted to nurse Neil through his first year. I was successful in that but now I'm paying for it, both in weight and muscle tone. My neighborhood is very hilly but I can't even walk it without my calves hurting.
So, I decided to "start over" and start running again. I am using the Jeff Galloway method of intervals and my plan if I run the half marathon is to work up to consistent 3 mile runs at least 3 times a week and then start the Hal Higdon training plan Novice 1 plan starting the first week in August. This will make it tight to get to the half marathon but I don't think I'm going to be ready to really start the training plan beforehand. I have some struggles fitting in the runs and am going to try to do most of the runs at lunch at work and the long run on the weekend or maybe one day a week on the way home from work.
I know that training type stuff is pretty boring as far as blog posts but this will be sprinkled in with toddler talk as usual. :) And it keeps me motivated to do this. I really, really need motivation.
I'd like to start up my monthly mileage posts so this is the first one for 2014 and will include the abysmal mileage from the first half of the year (June is just starting to pick it up).
In the month of June, I ran 27.76 miles.
I used to split the walk and run intervals but I'm not going to bother with that. I don't have the time and I've learned that as long as I'm running intervals I'm still getting the miles so I'm counting both intervals as run distance.
Total Run mileage
January: 0
February: 4.7
March: 4.31
April: 3.97
May: 3.67
June: 27.76
2014 total: 44.41
Go Jenny!!
ReplyDeleteThanks! Cross your fingers I can fit the runs in.
DeleteYour tune mileage says 25.61 in sentence form and 27.76 in your list of all the months.
ReplyDeleteGood job on June.
My July goal is 30 miles but I still am not running because of my neck so it might be tough.
You should note your longest run because as the months go on this will be further and further and interesting to see.
Oh thanks! I also took the chance to fix the font because it was screwed up.
DeleteI don't have a monthly goal, yet. This month I just want consistency so I can start training for real in August. It will be tight but I'll just deal with it. :)
This month my long run was around 3 miles haha but that's a good idea for future posts! I don't plan right now on doing weekly training posts like I used to. I haven't even picked a definite training plan, either.
When can you run again?
Originally he said 2 weeks. Then at 1 week he changed it. But I still feel like something is stabbing me in he neck every so often so I'm waiting. Plus he still said to wait the full 2 weeks for yoga? Pilates, lifting weights.
