24 weeks

Oh wow I didn't even think about viability day when writing this post until I had finished it and was looking at last time's to fill out what's same and different! YES. Once you hit 24 weeks, if you go into labor early, the doctors will do everything they can to save the baby. Before this, they won't really intervene. Especially with the fact that I had some contractions a couple of weeks ago, this has me sighing with relief. And feeling like this is all more real. I can't wait to hold this baby in my arms (but wait for your due date, baby!)

Also, I said it in a comment to a previous post but I think Neil is starting to get that we will have another baby. Maybe. We bought him a couple of books and he doesn't prefer them or pick them out himself, but does listen intently when I read one to him. I read one last night actually and then talked about where the baby is. I lifted my shirt, too, to try to show him, and he hugged my belly and said hiiiii drawn out and loudly. I told Dave we need a name so that Neil can get used to calling the baby something!
I think I popped!

How many weeks: 24 (12/2/14)

Size of baby:
A cantaloupe and measures 22 cm or 8.7 inches, crown to rump length. Head to toe is 10.5 inches. The baby also weighs 600-700 grams or 1.3-1.5 pounds.

Total Weight Gain/Loss: I gained 1 pound in the past week so I'm now up 4 pounds total. This is probably still on the lighter side and I have a feeling I will probably end up with a "big" week to catch up at some point. I'm actually a little lower on actual weight than I was at this point with Neil. But I also am sick so that could be keeping me from gaining more. I should gain about 2 pounds a week through the end of the 2nd trimester...

Maternity Clothes: I gave in. Sunday we were getting ready and I realized that my jeans are sitting below my belly. I sat with them unzipped on the couch and told Dave I feel fat. ;) And then pulled out maternity pants. My maternity clothes are slightly big but I never liked the belly band that much so I'm just transitioning now.

Gender: Boy

Movement: I am feeling more consistent movement in certain places. I have a feeling this baby is sideways- I especially feel him on my right side pretty often and it has hurt a few times. Not badly hurt but makes me jump a little bit. The movement reminds me I'm pregnant sometimes haha.

Sleep: I got a cold from Neil this week and I'm not sleeping well at all because I can't breathe and my throat hurts. I have taken Benadryl twice to try to sleep but I'm still waking up when I get really stuffed up and can't breathe. So maybe Benadryl isn't a good idea because it tires me out more...

What I miss: Being able to push myself when I run or do something else. I'm hesitant because I don't want to hurt the baby or myself. I'm still keeping up the running as much as I can though!

Cravings: I want to lay off sweets in anticipation of my 1 hour glucose test, hoping I'll pass it this time and avoid the 3 hour glucose test. Unfortunately it's scheduled for December 30th so guess who will be avoiding all the yummy Christmas treats! I have a feeling from now until then I will be saying I want sugar.

Aversions: Nothing.

Symptoms: I'm more whining because of being sick haha than anything else. Still in the 2nd trimester which is the best one!

Best moment this week: Both Thanksgiving dinners- with my parents on Thanksgiving and then with some of Dave's family the following Sunday. Plus it was awesome to have extra days off work to relax and spend some family time together. Specifically, though, Neil seemed to be interested in his 3 month old cousin Hailey. When we went to my sister-in-law's house, Neil went right up on the couch and sat next to Hailey. And he didn't hesitate on holding her either. I'm hoping these are good signs that he's going to be ok with a new baby in our household...

Looking forward to: I am now counting down the days until the Christmas holidays! I have vacation that I hadn't used and we can't carry over here so from Christmas Eve on I will be done with work for the rest of the year. And I have about 4 days in addition to that to take between now and then.

Same this time: I think looking at the picture that I look about the same as I did last time. And I was in maternity clothes last time so I guess it IS time.

Different from last time: Last time I mentioned in the movement section that I can sometimes see the baby moving. I haven't even looked to see. I'm pretty sure that was bare belly and I haven't sat there with a bare belly to see haha. I've just been too busy/preoccupied to focus on that kind of stuff this pregnancy.

    1. Thanks! I think my muscles decided that enough was enough because when I started showing I really popped I think. (I still think I probably feel bigger than I actually look though so I try to tone down bemoaning how much bigger I've gotten.)
