Neil took forever to eat dinner so Dave decided to just start while Neil was finishing eating. This actually worked out well because when he had to use the big sharp knife, Neil was contained in the high chair.
As soon as Neil was done eating I let him out of the high chair and he immediately wanted to be a part of what Daddy was doing. I cleaned off some of the utensils Dave was done with and let Neil hold them. That seemed to distract him enough that Dave was pretty free to do what he needed to.
At first I tried to keep the chair back so he wasn't in the way but he was so interested I eventually pulled it up and let him look more closely. I think he also felt like he was helping a little bit.

Great pumpkin art! Neil is so cute.
ReplyDeleteThanks! The art was cheating but it worked haha.
DeleteYou know I never ever thought of having paper of the outline of what I wanted to cut out so it wasn't free handing it on the pumpkin. I never saw it either until this year. I do think I paid attention more to other people. But I've seen a lot of people tracing.
ReplyDeleteI like the pumpkin and how Neil "helped."
I went to the store the same day we carved to get a set. I had one already but it was in a box in the attic (Star Wars theme) and we didn't want to dig around looknig for it. This was the only thing available and it turned out better than I thought it was going to! I know we could have free handed it too, we really just wanted the tools. But we decided to try the actual kit.
DeleteI didn't even know they have carving sets. We just used a knife and maybe a pencil first.
