Pittsburgh Children's Museum

We took Neil to the Children's Museum the day after Christmas. He's a bit on the younger side for it but he enjoyed it anyways. They are normally open from 10-5 but had extended holiday hours of 9-5. We got there at 9 when it opened (which I like to do to avoid crowds) and we basically had the whole place to ourselves for at least an hour.

This sheep is made out of plastic bottles.
They have a nursery area that we spent quite a bit of time in, and one other kid showed up eventually when we were almost done.
HUGE light brite!

They had a bounce area that was definitely old for Neil but there were some exhibits that Neil really liked in there.
We also went in the garage, again, some things were too old but Neil had fun anyways. We wandered into another area and it turned out to be crafts. Neil was extremely interested in it so we let him paint a picture.

We were all hungry so we went to the cafeteria and it was your typical museum cafeteria- not great food, not great prices. But we were all hungry and that was where you could eat so we did.
Finally we went to the water floor. I need to remember next time to pack a swimsuit, swim diaper, and towel. I had heard definitely bring a change of clothes but I had no idea just how wet the area was. I rolled up Neil's jeans and we put a smock on him but he got the sleeves of his shirt so soaked that we just changed him with his change of clothes in the diaper bag, afterwards. He loved this area and we did have to drag him away.

By then it was getting pretty crowded and Neil was close to nap time, so we decided to go home. Dave was also working- I picked him up at work and then dropped him off there (the advantage to working downtown) so he got in at least half a day of work, which is nice, but we got to spend some family time together.

  1. This is awesome. Ella would love the water area. I would love to be somewhere like that without crowds. We went to a little museum yesterday but it was PACKED and the little bit bigger kids basically pushed Ella out of the way so they could do what they wanted.

I love his painting. I hope you saved it!
